Adirondack Fishing Expo
May 22 – 23, 2010
Old Forge, NY
Imagine the mist on an Adirondack pond at dawn as an angler slips his canoe into the calm water and uncoils his fly line in search of colorful brook trout. The only ones sharing the pond are the loons or perhaps an occasional deer or mink. He may be rewarded with lots of sizable fish, but more likely the experience is measured in quality rather than amount of fish caught.
Scenes like this once were common but are becoming increasingly rare. That is what the NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame hopes to help change with its Adirondack Fishing Expo. Since the NYSOHOF is dedicated to helping promote enjoyment of our outdoor resources it is natural that they would become an organizer of this event designed to educate people to the opportunities that exist in the Adirondacks.
The Adirondack Fishing Expo will be held May 22 – 23, 2010 in Old Forge at the Park Ave Community Center. Hours will be 10 – 4 daily. The Park Ave Community Center is located one half block east of the “Five Corners” on Main St. and one half block from Forge Pond where Paddlefest is being held.
The Expo will feature the NYS DEC Fish Tank & Exhibit, Adirondack Guides, and fishing tackle vendors, including rods and accessories. Also there will be displays and information on canoes & kayaks, creel & packbasket makers; fly tyers; and lures; wildlife artists, carvers, wildlife photographers, and book signings Organizations & exhibits include Trout Unlimited, Atlantic Salmon Club, FishNY.com, NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame, and tourism agencies.
Information on where and how to fish will be provided by many sources including The Adirondack Tourism Council, regional agencies, DEC publications, free maps from FishNY.com, and free outdoor magazines. You can pick up free copies of “Embark,” Lake Ontario Outdoors,” and “Outdoors Magazine.” In addition to the material you will have the opportunity to talk to guides and local experts for advice and future plans on fishing.
There will be free seminars & demonstrations on: Fly Tying, Kayak Fishing, Fly & Spin Casting, Safety; Cooking Demonstrations, Casting Clinics, and Where & How to Fish. Whatever your favorite species or type of fishing may be you will find information to help you enrich your experience at the Expo.
Rediscover Adirondack fishing and the total pleasure it brings. Escape to the world where green and wind and splash blot out the things that people keep telling you to do.
